Greetings from the President
|
Father Scanlan told us how, in June of 1974, he went before the selection committee for the new President for the then College of Steubenville. The committee asked him what he would do if he were to be elected as the new president. Fr. Scanlan replied: "I don't know." There was a long pause. Then Father said "but I will tell you that I believe God wants for this Franciscan College. I believe He wants Jesus to be Lord of this campus, Jesus to be the Way, the Truth and the Life. I believe that He wants theology to be the queen of the sciences, as John Henry Newman said, and the dominating force for the values and teaching on the campus. I believe He wants a faith community. And a faith community is a community where it's easier to believe than not believe, to be moral than immoral. It's like a current in a river, and you know whether you're going with the current or against the current. I believe He wants a community built in small units, where there's a sense of commitment and building one another up." Addressing the crowd at the Redeemer Pacific gathering, Father Scanlan concluded, "I've got every confidence Redeemer Pacific will [also] be led according to what God wants." If you long for the kind of university experience Fr. Scanlan describes above, where the focus is on faith and learning in an "atmosphere of faith," we invite you to consider whether the Lord is calling you to earn your degree at Redeemer Pacific College and Trinity Western University. Redeemer Pacific is an associate College of the Franciscan University of Steubenville. Franciscan University assists the College with the selection of professors, with curriculum, and with our student life program - helping to ensure that Redeemer Pacific attains the highest standards of Catholicity and loyalty to the Magisterium. At the same time, Redeemer Pacific is unique in the world of higher education because the College is an affiliate of Trinity Western University, the Canada's premier Christian liberal arts university and the only university in Canada to earn an 'A+' in the Globe and Mail's University Report Card for three years in a row (2006, 2007, 2008). RPC students take courses at both Redeemer Pacific and Trinity Western to earn a TWU degree. These students, tomorrow's "dynamic Catholic leaders," best describe what it's like to work and grow in this stimulating faith affirming environment. Raquel, an alumnus from Alberta writes: "RPC has been a real journey for me. . . Through gaining knowledge of the Catholic faith, especially via the Pope's writings, I have been able to put words to things I've always known on some level. . . I have grown as a result of coming to RPC. . . Confidence in my faith has led to an increased confidence in myself. I have a sense of freedom now that I know more of who God made me to be and what He wants of me. Redeemer Pacific College has been a true blessing for me." Paul, an alumnus from Northern California, writes the following: "The rapidity with which I felt at home was amazing to me. Living in residence at Trinity played a large role in helping me feel at home away from home. The availability of Mass and praise chapel, discussing Catholic doctrine with both Catholic and Protestant students, and always having credible Catholic professors to clarify the theological squabbles are among the aspects of the partnership that has caused me to grow in my Catholic faith. . . I think God led me to the perfect situation for me, from my major at Trinity, to the wholesome living environment on campus and concurrent participation in a wholly Catholic environment. I thank Him for this place." We invite you to consider Redeemer Pacific College at Trinity Western University as you pray and discern the Lord's will for the rest of your life.

In the summer of 2003, just before Redeemer Pacific College began its fifth year, Father Michael Scanlan, Chancellor and former President of the Franciscan University of Steubenville, addressed a gathering of RPC supporters.
